When the first eyelashes were a thing, they were a lot of fun
The first time a young girl started using makeup was a “troubling time,” says Rachel, an aspiring makeup artist who’s just 19.
“I didn’t know what to expect, but I was really nervous.
I was scared it was going to be a problem.
Then I had a big-breasted girl, who I thought was beautiful.
She was really smart and kind of cute, but she had eyelashes.
And I was like, Wow, these are real!
So I just had to try it.”
Rachel says she’d have to be pretty lucky to find someone who would accept her eyelashes as a fashion statement.
“If you look at the Instagram feeds of the women who were using eyelashes in their Instagram posts, you see that a lot are using them for makeup, and they are wearing eyelashes and not really getting a reaction out of the audience,” she says.
“You would think that if they were going to get a reaction from people, they’d be getting a really, really big reaction.
I’ve never been a fan of people taking advantage of someone else, but this was really, truly a turning point for me.”
It’s also helped to explain why many of the world’s top makeup artists use the term “eye makeup tools.”
“Eye makeup tools have become very, very popular in recent years because they have the power to get people to want to wear makeup,” says Kelly, a makeup artist based in Brooklyn.
“They’re not something that can be thrown out and have to go somewhere else, so it’s easier to use them.”
Kelly uses eye makeup brushes to help her look more like her favorite celebrities, and she’s also used them to create a look that feels natural and professional.
“It’s a way to give yourself a more organic look,” Kelly says.
While Kelly is also a fan, she has found that some women don’t want to look like the Kardashians or Paris Hilton.
“The majority of the time, when you use eye makeup, you have to take care of it.
It’s a very important aspect of what makeup is supposed to be,” she explains.
“But if you use it to make someone look fake, or make them look weird, then it’s definitely a faux-pas.”
Eye makeup brushes can be found at Sephora, H&M, Nordstrom, and Urban Outfitters.
But Kelly says she’s used eye makeup on her own at least three different events in the past two years.
“Most of the makeup that I’ve had to do for my own looks is just eye makeup.
It does help to be more self-conscious about what you’re wearing.
If I go to the supermarket, I want to go with a natural look and not with a look to look fake.
I do a lot more eye makeup in my own house.
I don’t have to worry about my makeup being too big or too small.”
